Louis B. Hobson of Calgary Herald recently published a preview of Sheri-D Wilson's play "A Love Letter to Emily C".

When Wilson was participating in the Denman Island Readers and Writers Festival last summer, she met First Nations storyteller Wedlidi Speck, who opened and blessed the festival.

“I got to talking to him and asked him if he would read my play about Emily Carr. I was elated to discover he has connections to the people of Kwakwaka’wakw, the tribe that gave Emily her native name Klee Wyck. He has agreed to come to Calgary to bless opening night (May 4 at 7:30 p.m.)

On May 5 at 2 p.m., Wedlidi will join Wilson and facilitator Patti Pon, president and CEO of Calgary Arts Development, in The Big Secret Theatre for a talk — Meeting Emily Carr through the eyes of the Kwakwaka’wakw. It’s a pay-what-you-can event.
