What to Expect
This is a full day of creative immersion — from morning retreat to evening stage. Here’s what’s waiting for you:
- A Writers Retreat featuring four incredible workshops – songwriting with John Wort Hannam, body-centered writing with Skylar Kay, spoken word exploration with Shone Thistle, and my own session, Poetry Without Borders, where we’ll fuse forms and genres to awaken new ways of thinking
- An evening Live Revue with performances by Audrey Lane Cockett, Skylar Kay, Shone Thistle, Samantha Whelan Kotkas, John Wort-Hannam, and yours truly – with stunning light projections by Mackenzie Bedford
- An opening circle guided by Priscilla Cherry and Samantha Whelan Kotkas to ground you creatively before the day unfolds
- Light refreshments included with the retreat, plus Sanctuary Coffee serving baked goods all day
No experience necessary. Just curiosity and a story to tell.
Why You Should Attend
This is one of those rare gatherings where the room hums with possibility. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or someone who’s been whispering poems into notebooks and wondering if they count – they count. You belong here. Roots to Sky is about community, expression, and the transformative power of words shared together.
And every dollar raised goes directly to supporting Queer and Trans youth arts programs in Calgary. Your presence makes a difference – creatively and collectively.
