What to Expect
Picture a well at the edge of the woods. You lean over, drop in a word, and something ancient answers back. That’s the spell we’re casting. Six writers and artists will explore nature, memory, transformation, witchcraft and the strange magic hidden in everyday life, with the cello weaving through it all like smoke.
- Ashley-Rae Carter-Wells, writing from Alberta’s oldest working ranch on witchcraft, motherhood and power
- Morag Northey, award-winning cellist, conjuring live music between the words
- Eugene Stickland, playwright, novelist and the Calgary Public Library’s author in residence
- Mary Vlooswyk, poet, visual artist and lover of twilight
- Me (Sheri-D), bringing the Mama of Dada’s own brand of mischief
- Ashley J.J. White, our M.C., guiding us through the night
Why You Should Attend
Autumn asks us to slow down and listen to what’s underneath. Poetry and cello together do that like nothing else. They slip past the busy mind and speak straight to the bones. This is a night to remember that magic isn’t just for October. It’s in the words we choose, the stories we carry, and the people we gather with in the dark.
