Poem

– Kiara Johnson

I was drawn in by his curls and his laughter,
But as we grew his light shown through.
He used to call me sunshine,
But I knew he was the light between us.
I miss him often when he’s away,
But he needs to live, and I won’t slow him down.
I know that if he knew how sad I am,
That it may cause him to frown.
He can’t solve my problems,
I wish he understood that that’s not what I need.
I just need him,
With his curls and his light.

My name is Kiara, I am an Indigenous University Student at the University of Calgary. My appreciation for poetry came fairly recently after taking a class focused on poetry during spring classes. I submitted this poem due to this newfound interest as well as my admiration for a certain someone featured in this poem. I hope that the people who read this enjoy it
